Bel lebs द्वारा AMPS (Advance Mobile Phone System) का आविष्कार किया गया|
AMPS में geographical area को छोटे छोटे भागों में विभाजित किया जाता है जिनको cell कहा जाता है|
ये cell hexagon के आकार के होते हैं प्रत्येक cell का base station होता है

Frequency allocation
पड़ोसी cell समान आवृति पर operate नहीं कर सकते समान आवृति पर operate करने वाले cello के मध्य एक न्यूनतम दूरी का होना आवश्यक है जिससे कि एन सिग्नल का नुकसान न हो जाये तथा interference की संभावना समाप्त हो जाय|
